I am currently concerned with making my practice more environmentally sustainable and also more connected to the rest of my life.

The charcoal is collected from my slow combustion stove on winter mornings after the previous night's fire. It is a renewable resource for the duration of winter, but is also a finite one. The wood used in the fire is collected locally, some from dead trees on our place and some from farmers who might be discarding old fence posts or pushing fallen trees into a pile. The wood would be burnt anyway, but we make use of it to heat the house and also have a connection to the hot water system. With that and a solar hot water collector we don't use any fossil fuels to heat water. Burning it in a slow combustion fire also minimises pollution compared to burning in a paddock.
